Allow me to wallow and wax poetic. I don't do this often, so bear with me. Or not.
It could be a job piling responsibilities and pushing you past your coping threshold. Maybe a drug addicted family member set on killing herself because she's too dumb to choose life. A natural disaster taking everything you own, everything that defines you and wiping your slate clean. It might even be as stupid as an ignorant but politically possessed friend who won't stop spewing propaganda and takes it as a personal attack when you dare have a different take... whatever it is this time, it will be something different next time you allow yourself an indulgent moment to break down.
When life gives you lemons....
You cry, scream, clench your hands in helpless fists, claws.
You hold back tears, strong and stupid and a role model until your vomit.
You drive as far as the car will take you, then walk until your feet bleed.
So many stupid little earthquakes constantly tearing down, breaking us into our most basic selves.
The pulpy, pulsing, mammal with no self control or judgment.
Unable to draw the next breath without shaking.
Dependent and flailing, you're not making lemonade today and everyone can just go suck it.
And, just for fun, because I'm obviously in a really fun mood right now, here's a song the above rant brought to mind.
Little Earthquakes, by Tori Amos
Yellow bird flying
Gets shot in the wing
Good year for hunter
And Christmas parties
And I hate and I hate
And I hate and I hate
Elevator music
The way we fight
The way I'm left here silent
Oh these little earthquakes
Here we go again
These little earthquakes
Doesn't take much to rip us into pieces
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/t/tori+amos/little+earthquakes_20139489.html ]
We danced in graveyards
With vampires till dawn
We laughed in the faces of kings
Never afraid to burn
And I hate and I hate
And I hate and I hate
Disintegration
Watching us wither
Black winged roses that safely changed their color
Oh these little earthquakes
Here we go again
These little earthquakes
Doesn't take much to rip us into pieces
I can't reach you
I can't reach you
Give me life
Give me pain
Give me myself again
Oh these little earthquakes
Here we go again
These little earthquakes
Doesn't take much to rip us into pieces

Like many others, I'm sure, Little Earthquakes was my first Tori album. Still adore that song/album to this day. :-)
Happy Phantom, from that album, was the song that hooked me and made me a life long fan.
Profound expression of screaming into the wind.
