Redacted

My husband requested I take down my Freedom of Speech blog post. Ironic? Nah... on my priority list, jealously guarding my constitutional right is outranked by the need to preserve the safety of my family. Voltaire can afford such sentiments -- he's dead already.

The world is crazy on so many levels. Safeguard the relationship with your husband. :-)

Now my husband feels like my readers think he's a jerk. I don't think so -- he's just being cautious.

I find that I sort of agree with your stance, and I sort of disagree.

It's a problem when we hand over our rights for the illusion of safety. Soon we will have no rights or safety.

But I understand the desire to protect those around you.

On the other hand, I also think there's a bit of a problem with that particular film. See, we have a constitution that protects our free speech right up to the point of inciting riot (which that video has done). That means it's not entirely legal, and the United States is well within their rights to disavow him.

But what upsets me about this is that the muslim world is rioting about a freakin trailer for a video when in Syria, they are murdering children. Why aren't they rioting about that? Actual people actually dying, and no protests or call to arms, but heaven forbid someone make a video about the prophet. Sorry to go on, but this whole thing really upsets me.

Yeah, it upsets me when there is an act of war and all our government does is apologize for hurting people's feelings.
Yeah, that film... how could the idiot that made that not realize the backlash. Then again, maybe he wanted it. Ridiculous.

Totally true, by the way, the trade off between rights and perceived protection from the government.

He was probably right. We live in crazy times.
